About Our Firm

Since 1966 Pelfrey & Company has been providing quality, timely, and affordable accounting, tax and consulting services to the public. More than 50 years ago, Charles F. Pelfrey opened his practice in Deer Park, Ohio. He realized right away that his job wasn’t simply “crunching numbers”, it was helping people to realize their financial goals for themselves and their businesses.

The firm has grown since then, and Charlie has since retired, but his philosophy has been passed along to another Pelfrey - his son David. Today, principals David Pelfrey and Pete Koenig, together with manager, Karen Meyer, make up the management of Pelfrey & Company.

Much has changed in the accounting profession in 50+ years. Today's technology allows for totally new ways of processing and sharing information. The complexities of the tax laws have increased substantially as well, along with many other changes too numerous to list.

But with all these changes, there’s one thing that never goes out of style – good, old-fashioned personal service. The kind of service which is the cornerstone of our practice.

We’ve had more than 50 years to develop our system of providing quality accounting, tax and consulting services to a wide variety of clients. Our management group consisting of two principals, a director and a manager represent well over a century of combined experience. No matter what the concerns may arise relative to your business, chances are we’ve seen it before and can help you deal with it effectively.

Timeliness is at the very essence of our business. Accounting and tax work for small businesses is comprised of one deadline after another. We make sure every effort to ensure that your financial statements are prepared on a timely basis and that tax and compliance fillings are ready before they’re due.

3. Personal Attention

Some of our clients who have used larger firms in the past felt that they were too small to be an important client to the firm because they were constantly being shuffled around from one staff member to another, and rarely, if ever, dealt with a partner or manager in the firm.

That is one problem you won’t have with Pelfrey & Company. We do have staff accountants and support staff who may perform some of some of the detail work on your account, but it is a partner or manager who will be your primary contact. They are always accessible to you, and will be familiar with every aspect of your business.

4. Affordable Fees

Of course, having the best in professional experience, prompt service and personal attention can’t do you any good if you can’t afford it. There can be a considerable difference in fees charged by various accounting firms. We know because we see how much we often save many of our clients who have come to us after dealing with other firms—even smaller firms and sole practitioners. Our fees are some of the most reasonable around, and we do it without sacrificing quality or service.

One feature which many of our monthly or quarterly business clients really appreciate is our fixed fee retainer. When you come to us as a business client, we determine up front the amount of time that will be needed to perform all the accounting and tax services for your business and set a fixed monthly fee which includes all of your accounting services. Unlike many firms, we don’t bill extra for telephone calls, making copies of tax returns or financial statements, or even personal appointments to discuss a particular matter regarding your business.

Our Team

David Pelfrey, CPA

David received a BS degree in accounting from Clemson University in 1984 while earning Beta Alpha Psi honors in accounting. Upon graduation, he joined the audit staff of the international accounting firm of KPMG (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co.) in their Greenville, South Carolina office. While at KPMG, David earned his CPA license and advanced to senior in-charge accountant while gaining valuable training and experience in such areas as retailing, manufacturing, nonprofit/governmental, health care, pension and benefit plans, EDP auditing and more, including an industry specialization in real estate.

David joined Pelfrey & Company as a partner in 1987 and has since directed the firm’s audit practice and assumed the day to day administrative duties of the firm. He became the managing principal of the firm in 2001. David is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as an instructor for the United Auto Workers - Ford Motor Company Financial Education Program and has been a guest speaker on tax and accounting matters for a number of local organizations and media.

M. Peter Koenig

Pete joined Pelfrey & Company in 1976, after receiving a BS degree in accounting from Defiance College. He became a principal of the firm in 2001. Pete's duties with the firm include supervision of office staff, tax consultation for both corporate and individual clients, and financial statement preparation and auditing. In more than 30 years with the the firm, Pete has developed extensive and diversified accounting, auditing, tax and management experience.
